Recently launched, the All New RAV4 and Corolla performed strongly across the board, with protection of passengers and the effectiveness of active safety systems. The tests included the protection on both adult and child occupancy and the safety of vulnerable road users such as cyclists and pedestrians.

Both models remained stable in the passenger compartment for the front offset test. Good protection of the knees of the driver and passenger were also shown based on dummies used. Similar levels of protection would apply for occupants of different sizes and sitting in different positions. Tests in the front seats and head restraints demonstrated good protection against whiplash injuries in the event of a rear-end collision.
Both scored maximum points in the side barrier test, with good protection of all critical areas. The front passenger airbag can also be disabled to allow a rearward-facing child restraint to be used in that seating position.
Vulnerable Road Users
The bumper on both models provided good protection to pedestrians' legs at all test locations, and maximum points were also scored for protection of the pelvis. The AEB system, applicable to the RAV4 and Corolla proved to detect vulnerable road users as well as other vehicles, and performed well in tests of its reaction to pedestrians and to cyclists.
For both models, the Toyota Safety Sense package, including the Pre-Collision System which can detect pedestrians and cyclists in the vehicle’s path scored maximum points. This was tested at city speeds with collisions being avoided at all test speeds. At highway speeds, collisions were avoided when approaching a slower vehicle. The standard-fit autonomous emergency braking (AEB) system scored full points in tests of its functionality at low speeds, typical of city driving, with collisions avoided in all scenarios.
